Studies bear out that families and children are healthier when there are routines and rituals. I’ve been thinking about rituals and traditions a lot lately as the Christmas season approaches.
Just today, I was wrapping presents for my kids. We have a fun family ritual where each member has a unique wrapping paper, but they won’t know which one is theirs until Christmas morning. As I start to send the wrapped presents out, my daughter, Mary, begins to deduce and speculate as to whose presents are whose. It’s a fun game, a family tradition, a ritual.
We have other rituals that we use to celebrate over this season, and I’ve been thinking about which ones are important and necessary, and which ones are just fun. I’d like to be more intentional about where I am putting my time and efforts.
What rituals might you want to bring to your family?
