Finding Joy
As Lehi is getting ready to leave mortality, he reminds his last born that it was “in the days of [his] greatest sorrow” that Joseph was born (2 Nephi 3:1). Nephi doesn’t share the depth of the trials, but we know that Lehi and Sariah were worried for their rebellious sons, that they “suffered much grief because of their children” and “were brought down, yea, even upon their sick-beds” (1 Nephi 18:17). Yet somehow, just before Lehi passes on, in the midst of Laman and Lemuel’s rebellion, Lehi tells us, “men are, that they might have joy” (2 Nephi 2:25).
Does this mean that joy is available even while in the midst of difficult parenting trials?
The good news is that joy is available in the midst of our trials.
Lehi uses the word “might,” implying that joy is available for us, but we have to reach for it. Heavenly Father wants us to have joy, but he will not force us to be joyful.
I want to help you discover the joy available in your own family.
