Kids were dressed and ready for school, and the alarm went off for the kids and me to pray and learn in the scriptures before leaving. We had fun learning about the parable of the talents and talked about how we should be hard workers and not like the unprofitable servant. Before we knew it, it was time to leave. I realized that we had not seen Hyrum.
From past experience, I knew that he was probably lost in his thoughts upstairs and not close to being ready to leave. I talked with the boys and tasked Moroni (11) with getting the chicken nuggets ready for Hyrum’s lunch, Joshua (6) to prep the rest of the lunchbox with Hyrum approved food, and Adam (9) to grab Hyrum’s shoes and meet me upstairs.
“Hyrum,” I called as I reached the top of the stairs and seeing his school clothes still folded on the couch.
I heard his voice from the bedroom call back, “I’m naked.”
“Well come out here and get dressed quickly, we have to leave for school,” I replied. He came out and started getting dressed as Adam came up with his shoes. I left Adam to watch over him to make sure he got dressed all the way to his shoes as I went downstairs to make sure the lunch was finished and in his backpack.
We walked out the door with only two minutes to spare (school started in seven minutes and it takes five to walk there). I told the kids how proud I was of them working together to help their brother get ready for school. Joshua piped up with “Is that getting more talents?”
“Yes!” it is definitely working hard, but I then told them about the passage of scripture that we’ll be learning about next:
34 Then shall the King say unto them on his , Come, ye of my Father, the prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 For I was an , and ye me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a , and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye me: I was in , and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee , or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have it unto one of the of these my , ye have done it unto me. (Matthew 25)
I shared with them that Hyrum was, literally, naked, and that they helped clothe him. That he would be hungry at lunch time, and they fed him. I told them, again, how proud I was of them for taking care of him and loving him, and that I knew that the Savior was also proud of them.
I know that sometimes it is hard feeding, clothing, caring for littles, shuttling them to and fro. But, I also know that if we do it with a willing heart, serving them as we serve our Savior, that it feels more like a pleasure and less like a burden.
